Holding and moving digital dollars carries risks that are different from a bank account. Read this before you use BANJEE, and only hold what you're comfortable with.

Contents

1.BANJEE is not a bank

BANJEE is not a bank. Your USDC balance is not a bank deposit and is not protected by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) or any other deposit insurance scheme.

How your Naira balance is held: [Naira safeguarding arrangement — to be confirmed].

2.USDC and other stablecoins

USDC is a digital dollar issued by a third party, not by BANJEE or a government. It's designed to stay worth one US dollar, but that isn't guaranteed. Its value could fall if the issuer fails, its reserves are affected or it's restricted by regulators.

On Celo, BANJEE shows USDC, USDT and cUSD together as dollars. These are issued by different organisations and can be worth slightly different amounts.

3.Exchange rates

The Naira value of USDC changes. Rates shown in the app are estimates until you confirm a quote, which is held for a limited time. The Naira value of your USDC can go down as well as up.

4.Blockchain networks

  • Blockchain transfers can't be reversed. If you send USDC to the wrong address, it may be lost permanently.
  • Each address works only on its own network. Sending on a different network, or sending a different token, can mean permanent loss.
  • Networks can be slow, congested or temporarily unavailable, and network fees can change.
  • Blockchain transactions are public and can be viewed by anyone.

5.Custody

BANJEE holds the keys to your USDC wallet so you can use it with just your phone number and PIN. This means you rely on BANJEE to keep those keys secure and to process your withdrawals. If BANJEE's systems were compromised, or BANJEE could not operate, you might not be able to access your USDC promptly.

6.Bank transfers

Bank transfers can't be reversed once accepted. BANJEE shows the account name before you confirm, but you're responsible for checking it. Transfers may occasionally be delayed by banks or payment providers.

7.Third-party providers

BANJEE depends on WhatsApp, banks, payment providers, mobile networks and blockchain infrastructure. Outages or failures at any of them can delay or interrupt your transactions.

8.Regulation

Rules for digital assets in Nigeria and elsewhere are changing. New laws or regulatory decisions could limit what BANJEE can offer, or how and when you can buy, sell or withdraw USDC.

BANJEE's regulatory status: [licences or registrations — to be confirmed, or state that none are held].

9.Your own security

Anyone who has your phone and PIN may be able to move your money. Keep your PIN private, lock your phone, and tell BANJEE immediately if your phone is lost or you think someone knows your PIN. BANJEE will never ask for your PIN or a seed phrase.

10.No financial advice

Nothing in BANJEE is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. If you're unsure whether holding USDC is right for you, get independent advice.
